Since in the program we have the weekends off, I try to travel around Spain as much as I can to see new, cool cities and have new cultural experiences. And because I don't always have the opportunity to come to Spain and just travel, I try to make the most out of it. My plan in the first place was to go to either Bilbao or San Sebastian, but it was just too far, I had a lot of work, and no one actually wanted to come with me. So, I think sadly I will be leaving Spain without having seen the Basque Country. I really wanted to see it, but next time hopefully. So, with my boy Ben Burt, we decided to go see Valencia.
Valencia is like a 3 hour train ride away from Barcelona, it's more south, hotter, more green and smaller than Barcelona. Because of its football team, I have always had sympathy towards Valencia. Because this was only going to be a day trip, we just had to explore the city quickly and see things that are worth seeing and then catch our train back home. And I feel like we did a pretty good job doing so. We saw Estadio de Mestalla, it's a pretty old stadium, but it has a lot of history and memories in it, so I bet it's a special stadium for Valencia fans. But because it was a saturday, we couldn't go inside, nor the official shop was open. I don't really understand why all the shops are closed on saturdays, I feel like the weekends are the days to make sales, since no one is working and they're outside. I really wanted to get the sick new Valencia jerseys with the bat; the symbol of the city on them.
So I couldn't get the jersey, but we found another store, which I could at least buy a Valencia C.F. scarf to add to my collection. Now I have seen 4 stadiums in Spain, and have five Spanish teams scarves in my collection, not bad at all.
Besides that, Valencia is famous for its oranges, I didn't get the chance to eat it, but I had a lot of Horchatas. Horchatas are these traditional drinks made of milk, almonds, sesame etc. and they are delicious. They are also very unique to Valencia. We saw a very cool science museum, saw the old part of the city, the new part of the city, the beach, basically everything.
I actually liked Valencia a lot, there aren't as many tourists as in Barcelona, so it's not really annoying, it's a historical, green, natural, beautiful city with really cool museums.
